It sounds like you may be resizing the picture and it's not maintaining the aspect ratio of the picture. If you try to increase the picture size you will get a blurry distorted image at times.

If you're not resizing up but down, I think that the aspect ratio might be off. There is a setting in Paint Shop Pro that allows you to resize an image with or without maintaining the aspect ratio of the image. Go into the Image menu and choose Resize. Make sure that "Maintain aspect ratio of:" is checked and that it is around 1. or 1.3333 to 1. If this is off you can get odd results.

Your camera sounds fine. Mavicas are very good digital cameras and often treat the data very well once it's on the disk. I'm pretty sure that it's a setting in your image editing software. Start with the suggestion I gave and tell me if that works.
