William Whitaker teaching in Belgium June 2012

I'm teaching a month long class at the Flemish Classical Atelier in Bruges, Belgium this June. Instruction will be one-on-one and the main thrust will be painting flesh.

The facility has lots of space and excellent classical natural light. My goal is to shave a few years off your learning curve. I want to stress SEEING and DRAWING FROM MEMORY. I will teach direct and indirect painting flesh painting techniques and how to work with palettes based on TITANIUM WHITE and WHITE LEAD.

For details, email me or email the organizer, Rosemary Ego Lataire at [URL=http://www.flemishclassicalatelier.com/URL]

The attachment shows direct painting with a titanium based palette.

This is an example of indirect painting: semi-opaque scumbling over a terre verte based underpainting using a white lead based palette.

This is an example of direct painting using a white lead based palette.I've cropped in as much as possible on these examples in an attempt to show detail given the limitations of image posting here.

The shots were taken in raking light to emphasize texture. In reality, the paint texture is much more subtle than you see here.

Two more little heads.
The first is direct painting - a main session and a follow up session for some touch up work. White lead based palette.

The second is one session direct painting. It's easier doing a man, especially a bearded man. Half the face is covered up. The palette was based on titanium white.
