Self Portrait

This is a self portrait from life. It is oil on canvas, the dimensions are 20x30. I started this painting sometime in May and stopped working on it in June. Wish i would have spent more time on the hands

Hi Paul,

This is such a great job for someone having started oil a few months ago.
Too bad that your picture is a bit blurred, but I like your portrait. I am certain you are going to inspire us with all the energy you put in painting ;-)

Good to have you here.

Sincerely,

karine

So, what's stopping you?

Very nice - sensitive handling and dramatic light. Can you post a clearer photo?

Beautifully done. The composition is very well thought out.

I do think you could spend a bit more time on the hands.

Paul,

So glad you posted this. If I showed you what I was doing at 20, you would laugh your head off. This self-portrait is so acomplished. I love the sense of light. The thin highlight where the nostril and cheek come together is so descriptive. I also like the way you modeled the wrinkles in your T-shirt without making it appear fussy or overworked. Plus, the portrait has soul, which is what a self-portrait should have.

Paul, I have to agree with everyone else. It's a great portrait, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Really lovely, the colours and composition and great, and so young to be producing work like this! It would be lovely to see how your work evolves.
