John Paul Study
I've attached a post of a study I did of my nephew, John Paul. He really wasn't intereste in having his picture taken so I had his sister sit next to him and gave him my remote control so he could shoot the camera. We wound up with a bunch of unusable shots but also acheived some pretty relaxed and comfortable fun shots. The painting is 16" x 20" oils. The colr is a little too red on my monitor. Comments, naturally are welcomed.

Chris
Thanks for the feedback. I hope this one posts correctly. The first was a CMYK format and maybe that's why it didn't post, although it did on my laptop.
Thanks again and I enjoyed the brief time we had at the conference.

Question of values
Hi John,
You have an excellent rendering of the child's features. The only killjoy here is in the values (if this photo of the painting is close to the actual painting itself)
I'm especially gripped by the values on the nose, when i thought that the values of the tip of the nose, ought to be higher than the forehead. So what i can suggest is to tone down that of the forehead.
The same goes for the value of the neck, because that site marks the transition from light to dark. Michele recommended this site for another thread, but i thought it may also help you here. Keep up the good work, John!

Marcus-
Thanks for your input. You know, when I read your post I couldn't believe what I was reading. I try to pay particular attention to the values but when I looked at your posted imae (my posted image) you were right. I double checked my painting and was relieved to see that the values of the neck and the upper portion of the nose were darker than in my lousy photograph.
I wish I had a better photo for you. I feel as if I have given you an unfair proposition, asking for a critique on an unfaithful image.
I may have tweeked the photo too much and increased the contrast or lightened it too much. I'll double check that and if I ca I will post a better and more accurate photo.

Hi john,
I should be the one saying sorry, because i had not been more sensitive about my critique. Above all, i've learnt something new from seeing your work of art, so that's invaluable to me. Thanks for that!
