Hello from flyover country

Hello to everyone. My name is David Boles, and I'm located in O'Fallon, Missouri a bit west of St. Louis. I used to live just east of the airport which gave a whole new meaning to the phrase flyover country, especially between 5 and 7 o'clock. I haven't noticed anyone else from around here. Am I filling a hole or just not paying attention?

Anyway I started painting again after a 15 year break. I decided it was time to go back to something I liked doing. I don't do as much portraiture as I would like, but hopefully that will change in the next couple weeks. My preferred mediums are (in no particular order) oil, pencil, egg tempera and watercolor. I also really like silverpoint. I'll end with a sample oil. This is the viola player from a local string quartet. Its a little piece about 12 x 11 on panel.

From one David to another: WELCOME! I don't know if you've been lurking long but, if not, I'm certain you will find this site to be an enormous resource - a "mine rich in gems of inestimable value."

Beautiful work. I'd love to see what you've done with egg tempera.

I've checked in here from time to time in the past. It is a nice resource as are most of the online forums.

I haven't done an egg tempera portrait, or any other subject for that matter, in a while unless you count a Botticelli madonna copy. I'm starting to get the tempera bug again though. I've got a still life posted over at the on line artist guild under the I've got candy thread if you're interested. (Hope its not bad manners to mention another forum) If I remember right you need to register to get in. You'll find a lot of the same people over there.

Hello David,

Wlecome to the forum. I hope to see your participation; I've found that the more I participate, the more I get out of it. I recently moved to Saint Louis myself in January, so I may be your closest neighbor on the forum.

Hiya David, nice to meet you
It seems to be a common point, this starting over after years away.
