A 3" x 4" Sketch of Ed

Well, when all else fails, read the directions. Eh! I tried sending Samuel Beckett, but I guess the file was to large. So, I'll try Ed. He's only 3 x 4 inches and 56K I think. Again it's in Pencil. I have been concentrating, on Sea Scapes and Atmosphere's and a few months ago started going to Portrait Sessions, with a friend. So I'm just getting back into it.

Charlie, I REALLY like this. The spontaneous quality of the lines is quite nice. The "quick response" style of shading and rendering the hair is great! You're just getting back into what? Portraits? Based on "Ed", I'd say keep it up!

This is a great sketch. The angle is not an easy one, and you carried it off nicely. Your handling of the wrinkles is appropriate, so as not to diminish them nor overwork them. I like the boldness and economy of line. You seem to have some experience. Your shading technique is good as well. It looks bigger than it is. You work small for lack of confidence. You must be working with a clicker pencil. I use a drafting pencil holder with 4B leads so I do not have to shave the wood, then I sand the tip on a sandpaper block. Your work is great, and I hope this gives you boldness to go to a larger size. I think drawing is the most satisfying thing in the world.
