Hello All,
Just a quick note in the way of introducing myself. My name is Valerie Gudorf. I'd been drawing and painting off and on for most of my adult life. The "off" periods were always precipitated by a form of abject fear; in my case a toxic stew comprised of one part self doubt, two parts over-concern for the potential rejection of my work by every Tom, Dick and Harry with an opinion, and, "I've never been to Art School, so how could I possibly be an artist?" syndrome.
Stephen DeStaebler is quoted in
Art & Fear as having said, "Artists don't get down to work until the pain of working is exceeded by the pain of not working." I don't know about you, but in the past, I resembled that quote to an unreasonable degree. However, my forty-sixth birthday served as a long overdue wake-up call. Now I just paint! Life's too short.
I look forward to participating in this on-line community of artist passionate about Fine Art Portraiture. I've been reading the threads and viewing your art, and feel very privileged to be numbered amoung you. I intend to learn as much as possible from the talented members of this forum and maybe, at some point in the future, will be able to give to others as much as I've been given. Thanks for scooting over and making room for me (what incredibly cool company!). I look forward to eventually meeting each of you individually.
Until later,
Valerie
