Patient boys

Here are a few more pics of my boys. I plan to do a portrait of each of them for sample paintings. Give me some good and bad points - these two are running out of patience with their shutter-happy Mom!

I like this first one. I think you came closer to the lighting on this one. The others were back-lit and caused you some trouble. I think I would eliminate the up-close prominent left hand. Here is one possibility. I think you can find something you like from all that you have in this photo.

I like your cropped version of the first picture. So, do we have a winner?! Anything you would suggest?

You might wait for the views of others.

You can see the benefit that the position of the window gives you in this photo. The light is able to pass across the face and accentuate the features. For future shots, you might try moving the couch and going for a simpler dining room type chair with arm rests. The arm rests will allow a place for the elbow, and the hand can naturally go to the head from either side. It's amazing what a variety of compositions you can get from this simple set-up. Removing the high back of the couch would also allow the light more of an advantage, and keep the high back of the couch from being so prominent a compositional component. And, as you did in this photo, have your light source coming in from the side. You might give the subject a little more room than I did on my crop. A matter of individual opinion.

I think you're on the right path to a great painting.

My favorite is the shot of the younger boy with his ankles crossed. Too bad he looks so bored in both photos!

Thank you, Cynthia for turning the first picture around!

Michele, I like that one of Chase, too. Both boys are tired of getting their pictures taken . With about four rolls of film between the two of them, I might combine the expression from one with the body of another. Thanks again!
