I love it! I think the skin tones are great and the clothing really adds to it. The only thing that bothers me is at the top of the canvas above his head there is one dark spot. Is this on the canvas or is this a shadow from the easel? Very good job!

It's a shadow from the easel I think! Might have to go and check, often lazy about filling in the spaces left by the easel head.

It looks beautiful, it is regrettable that your photos don't allow us to see your work more clearly. Was it painted from photo?

Beautiful Catherine! Your skin tones are soft and realistic and the eyes are captivating. Great job.

Beautiful portrait, you're very skilled. In your painting there may be more contrast between the treatment of the head-covering and the head than what I'm able to read from this photograph, but as it's reproduced here, I'm thinking it might be more effective if you broke up this monochromatic unity. The degree of finish in your brushwork is the same, but because of the color treatment, the turban comes across as unfinished.
Anyway, beautiful work, and if you posted this in the "unveiling" section, there wouldn't be any critique.

In reply, thanks for the comments. The painting is done entirely from life. I belong to the anti-photo school of portraiture! I apologize again for the quality of the photo, I borrowed a camera and was unused to it.
Maria, thanks especially, I am just starting out, so really need as much advice as I can get, which is why I posted here.
