Portrait of Lucy

Hi everyone,
Thought I'd share this latest work here. It's a portrait of one of the cutest faces around. Her name is Lucy.
Biggest concerns:
Is it too busy? Have I achieved depth and perspective? Cannot photograph the painting well for some reason...
I'd appreciate any comments.

Very nice painting. I would reconsider the following. The way her right hand covers her left makes the left hand fingers look cut off. I think the couch behind her head is too light and I don't understand the color patches. I would darken it and downplay the contrast. The edge of the couch arm to her left is too sharp. You need to give more thought to background value and color when composing the painting. Good luck.

Hello Flladi,

This is a lovely painting, such intense eyes for a little girl. The texture of her hair is very nice.

I have to disagree, I don't think that her fingers look cut off. I like how the pinky curls around the fingers. If you think there is a problem you may want to take a look at the value of the pinky on her left hand. Darkening it may round out the hand as a whole.

I think you achieved the depth just fine but the arm of the chair just above her head might be a little too sharp.

I'm not sure about the colors of the chair. You incorporated many different colors for color harmony purposes but the combination comes off as almost iridescent and I'm not sure what the color of the chair actually is.

No matter what it is a fantastic painting, beautiful portrait.

I would add one consideration, examine the chroma of the red sweater. In the photographic representation here it appears too strong consequently causing the facial tones to be more muted and grey.

This could be a result of your concerns for the quality of the photograph so I think you are the better judge.

I, too, think the chair in the background needs to be worked on. The colorfulness makes it jump out. And, yes, I think the painting would be better if the edge of that sofa were softened.

The fingers didn't concern me until they were brought to my attention and I think it is one of those things that can be improved and need to be caught early in the process.

All in all a very nice portrait and one to be proud of.
