Framing 9/11 portraits

I have a question about presenting a portrait. I do not include framing within my charge but add that it can be included. I do not like to show a painting for the first time without a frame of some kind. What do the rest of you do usually unless framing is decided beforehand

I am asking in particular about the posthumous portrait that some of us are involved with for the 9/11 Portrait Project. It is a gift so what is suggested about the framing?

Regarding framing for the 9/11 Portrait Project, have you checked with Margaret Herman on that?

No, I have not checked with Margaret for that as she had told me that once contact was made, the rest is between the artist and client. I suppose I will talk to my client in New York about that prior to doing the painting but here - I was only putting out some feelers for the project. I normally do not frame but I present it in a frame to show it better.Thought that maybe someone out there had better idea so I did check the topics you suggested.

Thanks again Cynthia and I went to that site. The photo popped up one time and I cannot get it again. Have I missed it on her site or what is the deal? It popped up on its own that one time.

When a window pops open like that, once it goes away from your view, it's still available down in your task bar. The task bar is the bar next to your Windows "start" button. Look down there and click on the buttons and you should find the window again. The other way to bring it back is to simply click "refresh" or "reload" on your browser.

I've pondered the same question regarding framing the 9-11 portraits. I'm leaning toward framing the painting myself. I'm thinking that since the financial situation of the recipient is unknown, the possibility exists that framing could put a burden on the family. Because of this the portrait could go unframed or with a "ready-made" that does nothing for it. I really prefer knowing that the painting is framed properly; therefore I'm thinking of making a gift of the frame too. If you prefer not to purchase the frame, one possibility would be to approach a local framer in your town and explain the project. Perhaps the framer would be willing to donate a frame.

Just a thought.

Hi Mary,

Just noticed your post and I do agree. I had already decided that I was going to frame the portrait. I don't know what I was thinking, because I believe that is the proper and right thing to do. But thanks for the input.

I am still waiting for some kind of color description for the patches and different medals on my portrait's uniform as he is Lt. John Crisci. I have an excellent photo to go by but it is in black and white. Someone wrote that I should contact the UFOA and I have. No response yet.

I feel so good about all of this being part of this entire portrait project, I mean.
