Giovanni Boldini

Does anyone know of a good book on Giovanni Boldini? I have searched several sites and all seem out of print.

RE: Giovanni Boldini

I'm a big fan of Boldini. I have a 2 volume copy of the Boldini Catalogue General (in French) which cost $150. It was not easy to find. You have to search out the used book dealers such as www.abebooks.com . Both Amazon and Barnes & Noble can hunt down used books. I recommend them. Also try www.alibri.com.

 On a brighter note, a Catalogue Raisonne was recently published in Europe (this year I believe). I tried to locate a copy but could not. I believe it is mostly in color--my book is about 50/50. You could also try contacting the Boldini museum in Paris. They have a website but I don't remember the url.

Boldini is also one of my favorite painters, even though his portraits occasionally show some of the exaggerated flair and glibness Sargent was often accused of having (and only rarely did).

There's a great Boldini self-portrait in the marvelous "Five-hundred Self-portraits", published by PHAIDON. A true tresure of a book.

I have purchased many used Sotheby's and Christies catalogs from eBay or
thecatalogkid.com and many of them have two or three paintings of his in each catalog. You can do a search on both web sites and I guarantee you will find some. They are not expensive ($4.00-$7.00 on average). I find these catalogs a great reference and a wonderful way to see unknown masters! Check it out...(19th century paintings and sculptures)
