Critique this pastel portrait

This is a detail of a portrait of Jorge Sosa, a local writer (Mendoza, Argentina). Sorry for my English.

It's taken with a digital camera, and some colours changed.

Thanks.

Hello, Jose.

This is a wonderful example of skill. Your face is so well done!

Still, I can't help but wonder why he looks so mad. Was this intentional? If so, then maybe the background/clothing etc. could be darkened to match his sinister mood?

Again, your work is impressive.

Thanks, Cheryl.

Thanks for your comment.

About the expression: he is the opposite to a bad guy. He is a writer and comedian. Present daily, for TV, a critique monologue in such a fun style.

Last Friday he presented a new show, jokes, telling stories, music and more.

The photo from which I took the image is in front of one of his books. Possibly it will not be a natural expression.

Jose,

It would be good if you could post your source material for this.

It certainly has much resemblance to the source photo. When I was in high school I used magazine photos for the sources of the work that I entered in a nationwide art contest (National Scholastic Art Contest). I was disqualified for using photos that were considered the work of another person, meaning the photographer. These are good for practice, but it certainly is better if you take your own photographs. Once you get a good photo, half of your work is done. Your drawing is excellently rendered.

Thanks Linda, for your comment.

I think in the same way about the photograph, but here, nobody knows me as a painter. I work to change this situation, and use all I can.

In this case, Mr. Sosa authorized the use of this photograph.
