Please critique Kristie
Here's a picture of my niece. It is painted in oil, 18" x 22". The photo has a little more contrast than the actual painting. Please critique.
Thanks,
Kent

It is beautiful! Great handling of the challenging dress. The hair is perfect. The eyes are sensitive, and not overdone.
I have a comment on the arms. She is a dancer - why have her arms hanging strait down at her side? Perhaps it was the only photo. It is great.

I really like this too!
I did a couple of things in Photoshop. First, I erased the hair shadow on the neck and made the muscle more pronounced. Then I lowered the saturation on that flower to the left.

What a delicate touch you have. My own eyes drink in the hair and I can imagine the work that went into the dress. It is easy to see that the neck needs more work.

Hi Kent,
Long time, no see. Your portrait is beautiful, I am jealous! Linda has given up on teaching for a while, she is very busy with commissions. So I just keep plugging along. Hope the family is well. I saw where you won an award for a poster. As your former classmate in Loranger, I can say I knew you when.
You will have to tell me how you make your hair so beautiful; the skin tones are luminous. Great job. I have joined the site and will try to post my latest portrait for critique. I am not very computer savvy. You're on your way, cher.

Beautiful Hair!!
I absolutely love the way you've rendered her hair to look soft and shiny. And the dress is incredible, too. Well done!!
Technically, it seems to me that the angle of her nose does not quite match the angle of her eyes. It's a small thing, and perhaps I am wrong. As for the shadows on her neck... well, firstly neck muscles don't curve like that. If the shape is due to the shadow from her hair, I'd rework the shadow so that the form of the muscle is not compromised.
I hope that's helpful.
Chris

It's been several years
Hi Cynthia,
It's been several years, hasn't it? It is good to hear from SOG again. Well, This picture still is beautiful but somehow now, it seems that there is too much surrounding her in too small a space. The shadow over the right shoulder seems out of place, and the flowers are placed a little too carefully to my eye. It they are important they should have more room. I still like the thoughtful mood and delicate touch.

Joseph, you have a dynamic subject, pose and composition. Being that you seek a critique I will be honest and share what I see and understand.
First the hair is well done in many respects but the hair in shadow is not blond and does not read blond. You mite think about introducing more light to the hair on the light side. Next, this mite be a strange observation even though I have not seen the person but I am not sure if this is true in real life for her nose seems a tad to long. Look at the shadow side of the face and ask your self these questions does it look real, would the shadow under the eye be this dark in real life, do I get the feeling that the face on that side sags a bit, is the bottom lip on that side to thick or is it the angle, how are my edges, are they soft or sharp where need be comparing to life or are they sharp like in a photo.
I sincerely hope this helps.
