Garth,
You must be so excited about all these recent things! I'm so glad things are going well. You deserve every bit of it!

Update and visit
Alex Tyng, Tom Edgerton, and I were able to get together and view the Nelson Shanks exhibition in the adjoining room at the League, this past Sunday. While there, we were able to see my portrait by entering through those grand doors into Lincoln Hall, graced with 50 or so past president's portraits. Currently mine is the newest portrait in the room, though that will change soon because the next portrait is just in the next room in the Shanks exhibition. Anyway, it was interesting to see how it was hung and lit, making the head rather bright and the hands rather diminished; probably not such a bad thing! Someday, I will try to get a less grainy image to share. This was at ISO 1600 and hand held.
It was great to have Tom Edgerton up for a visit! After this moment, Alex drove Tom back to the airport.
Garth

These pictures don't do the venue justice--it's a huge room with maybe seventy-five (?) Union League portraits in rows up to a very high ceiling.
Garth is being modest--his portrait really holds its own in the group and looks very impressive.
I had a great time up there...

It was a fun day with Tom and Garth. So glad you could make the trip, Tom! I had never been in this room before and it certainly was impressive. You can't believe how many portraits could hang on the walls of one room! It must be a full-time job to rotate them! Garth, you portrait looked very solid, atmospheric, and well-modeled. It really held its own in that massive space.

Just noticed that in the bottom photo, Mr. Lincoln seems to be aware of Garth's new contribution too...

Garth,
Here I've been enjoying this painting for more than two months and I haven't yet responded! Everything about this is impressive: the commission, the venue, the room and most of all this masterful painting. What a priveledge it is to know you!
BIG congratulations,
David
