I would propose the pricing is kept informal and done in the form of a questionnaire to all members, in this manner:
"I would like assistance in determining a general feel for what this painting would be worth.
*** Attachment of Image including detail shots****
Please rate this painting according to the following price categories
under $1,000.00
from $1,000.00 to 2,000.00
from $2,000.00 to 3, 000.00
etc.
With a footnote saying that this is meant as a general questionnaire and that it shows the opinions of forum members and does in no way determine the true value of a what a painting should be priced at. "
Since the questionnaire would only show color bars, the artists then can determine for him/herself how others like or dislike the work and the person would still be responsible to determine a price. This would only help in narrowing the pricing gap to a reasonable range.
I also think that this questionnaire should be placed in the WIP section or any other area that can not be viewed by the general public.
Our peers are our best critiques! Since opinions and tastes vary to such a degree, I would keep the voting anonymous. This allows for a honest opinion without the need of justification.
