Hello, this is a wonderful portrait and I truly mean that. Not shure of your choices of photos but to my eye this is a good choice. Mama will be so pleased.

I hope you will not mind that I have a few suggestions that in my humble opinion could shed some light. These suggestions can be considered even at this stage as you will see for they are about adding rather than subtracting. This is best explained on canvas so please excuse the scratches. 1 & 2 do not relate which makes the neckline stand out a bit. 3 & 4 can be toned down some even though it is considered a light reason being they stick out in relation to the solid form. Toning down the ear area where indicated will push it back and conform to the overall value of the form. 5 could be pushed in just a touch at same time considering the gesture line of the face. April, First I must tell you I think both these portraits are lovely and I don't know how you manage to do them in one sitting! I've never tried the wipe-out method for the very reason that I'm sure I would look at it the next day and find some mistake that I couldn't correct.

That said, I think the critiques you have gotten are good. I also think the rounded part at the bottom of the nose on our right is slightly too light. In the photo, it is about the same value as the same side of the cheek in shadow. If you darken the shadow slightly around the base of the nose on the right side, you can correspondingly darken the nose. I also notice that you have made the mouth on our right curve up too much, but I am not sure you can fix it at this point.
