Mariano Fortuny (father, second family name Marsal), spanish painter born in Reus, Tarragona, 1838.
He had a son, also called Mariano, born in Granada, 1871. The father is the more celebrated one (as a painter), the son, although also trained as a painter, was more known for his stage designs and photomontages.

Bravo Ilaria, and Carlos! It is Mariano Fortuny Marsal. He did live in Italy and Paris. The drawing in question is a Estudio para una crusifixion - 1860.
Thank you again for having interest and for taking the time.

Plan your time
Finally found some time to get back to the man on the cross. I am doing my best to have this finished soon that I may exhibit it at a new up and up gallery opening up in Kronberg. If you look up Kronberg you will find it has a interesting history. It was once a art colony and more.

This is a great lesson for anyone working in dry media, should it not be in the progress section? Thank you Mischa.

Update for the Old Master, charcoal lovers
I finally got back to this project and had a chance to adjust some things. With new projects, commissions and teaching I am forced to balance my time and some projects must be set aside. This is still not close to finished but I am getting closer. Hopefully the next time I post it will be finished.
All the best to you all
