Greetings from Alabama!
I have been watching the forum since long before I joined and I'm very excited to be in such great company. I tried my first posting yesterday -- under Framing -- asking a question. Got no response yet. Now I'm worried I did it wrong. Maybe I shouldn't have fiddled with it so much looking for a response because that seemed to turn the red light off. Anyway, I'm computer challenged but well intended so please know that I'm trying my best not to cause the forum too much inconvenience.
By the way, where can I look for information on the various titles assigned to people like "juried member" (me), "associate member," etc. Also, what's an FT? Tried to look that up and (remember computer challenged) failed.
Thanks to everyone for what I know will be very helpful to my new, scary, exciting, wobbly career.

Hi, Lani, and welcome to the Forum.
Regarding your question on varnish, I am afraid I have no familiarity with Damar, but if you go to the "Search" button at the top of any Forum page, you can generally find something available. I searched for "Damar varnish" and this appeared : http://forum.portraitartist.com/sear...searchid=53228 , so you might want to start your reading here.
FT means full-time. Juried members are those who, like you, have submitted work and have received posting privileges. I'll have to go see what "Associate members" is
As to the red button, I haven't a clue. Just be patient, as sometimes it takes people a while to get to various areas.
Glad to have you here!

Thanks so much! Can't resist mentioning that I'm a big fan and that I have and rely extensively on your book. You may recall that I tried to attend your workshop this November and waited too long and now I'm on your waiting list. Anyway, your participation in this forum was a reassuring element in my decision to join it. I know I will learn a great deal.

Hi Lani, Welcome!
The red button comes on to signify new messages since your last visit. Don't worry, I'm pretty technically challenged myself, it will all make sense soon enough.
I look forward to seeing some of your work!

I don't know if I've defined Associate Member in any of the official documentation. It's simply someone who was a member before we had a jurying process. Juried Member is the same as Approved. Someone didn't like "Approved" so we changed it to "Juried," but I've never had time to go back and change all the Approved Members, one by one to Juried Members.
