Hi Lisa,
I think you are right about posting here. I am so very humbled by the excellence of work. I feel like a beginner and I've been painting for 25 years or more. I hope to learn much much more through this site. I am just wondering if impressionism is not acceptable as a portrait style though. It would be nice to know before I start posting paintings.

I'm glad there is someone I know here Lisa! Welcome.

Dianne

Welcome, Dianne! I lived on Lummi Island off the coast of Bellingham many years ago, and I love that part of the country.

Your painting is very fresh and appealing. Is the medium watercolor?

While many of the artists who frequent this forum subscribe to a more realistic approach, impressionism is certainly well-represented here and is definitely acceptable.

Happy posting!

Welcome Dianne!
My son lived in Port Angeles and I visited your neck of the woods several times. What a beautiful part of the country you live in.

My suggestion to you, as a new member of the forum: do not hesitate to post for critiques. All the professionals here are great teachers and very generous and very kind. And spend as much time as you can going back into older posts as there is a huge wealth of knowledge to be gleaned. This is a wonderful place to come to to learn and to grow.

I like your painting and look forward to seeing more of your work.

Hello

Hello, Patricia and Leslie.

Thank you for writing. Thank you for the warm welcome. I love Washington. I spent many years in AZ and it was hard to adjust to the continual wetness, although I remember praying for rain a lot in AZ! Guess you have to watch what you wish for. It's so beautiful here though.

I only paint in oils. I've been working on another one more recently of my daughter. I'll post the head shot as I'm not finished with the whole thing yet. Not sure what other forums to post my work to.

Welcome DIANNE to the Forum,

Was always astonished by the beauty of Seattle area and the easygoing ambiance of it!
I see the same thing in your painting!

Welcome Diane,

I love your soft, loose, painterly style.

Dianne,

I've been admiring the portrait of your daughter. It's beautifully painted and her expression and pose have so much feeling and individuality. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your portraits.

Alex
