Yes, I've been visiting online artist forums for a while now. I think a number of people here are familiar to me.

Making a living in Silicon Valley? I know what you mean. ;-) I made a living (a pretty good one) for a long time as a computer game artist. I'm keeping my irons in that fire to some extent, since I do freelance game work still, as well as general computer graphics and website design.

The tech slowdown pushed me out of full-time work a while ago, I took the opportunity to get back to fine art, and here I am. Commissioned portraiture fits my style and personality well and it's one of the best ways I know to get actual money for my art. At this point in my life, I've quit analyzing every step and minimizing risk; sometimes you just have to go for it! :-)

Welcome! As you have discovered, this forum is a wonderful resource.

I too am early 40's, but am a late starter, you are still way ahead of me as I have only taken up art the last couple of years. I look forward to seeing more of your work here.
