Omissions
I neglected to mention Alan and Paul because I was only naming current forum participants. Just trying to be Mindful, is all.

HRH MMMM
Marvelous Master Marvin Mattelson
A title of great suitability
Will Marvin change with the trappings of fame
is a question of great inscrutability
But I maintain that Marvin will remain
our High Priest of Humility
It was a bookkeeping day.
Sincerely,

Kirk and Marvin
Kirk,
I have followed your work for many years. You are truly one of my mentors, even though you never knew it. To be able to click and see your work on the Gandy Gallery site has been such a convenience in the past couple of years and I hope to visit that gallery if I can get down that far south! I usually stop around Charleston.
As far as Marvin's work - I have something else very interesting to report.
I was teaching in my K-5 art classroom on Friday. I put a transparency from my textbook series on the overhead of a very colorful zebra (since we were studying exotic animals and painting them) I had searched through all my large prints and transparencies and came up with a few. This one, I knew they would like.
To my complete surprise, as I read out the "artist's name", it was none other than MARVIN MATTELSON. The zebra was on a poster design advertising The School Of Visual Arts. I then told my students my "connection" to the artist, which they were very impressed with.
Marvin - that illustration career is always lurking around in some art textbook in some small Southern town all over America! Barrett Kendall Publishing was responsible for this series of textbooks.
Cheers,
Denise

Denise,
Thanks for the kind note. I have heard from many people who have visited the Gandy site. He must get a lot of visitors to his website. Unfortunately, it is only a website. There is no gallery to visit, other than the images online.
Please let me know if I can be a more active mentor...I'd be glad to help any way I can.
Kirk

Down to Earth
Informed choices, I believe, are the gateway to genius. The academic training that the great master painters of the past were fortunate to have garnered, made it possible for them to raise above their mortal selves.
In my experience, by knowing the truths about the visual world around us we are able to transcend the dictums of stylistic contrivance and dogmatic rhetoric. Some call it being in the zone. Whatever achievements I may accomplish or honors I receive, the true joy I experience remains a function of allowing my paintings to happen in a place where ego is irrelevant.
Don't worry though, by having little tolerance for ignorance and even less for idiotic adherence to misinformed suppositions I remain steadfastly tethered to Planet Earth.
Yes I had a very good day painting today.

Sharon,
Thou Belle of Rhode Island, you are no slouch yourself when it comes to 'Mastery'.
Kirk,
This Forum is knee deep in shameless promotion. I am especially glad when new artists jump on board. Mentoring and encouragement are great gifts to another artist and I hope you will find some time to share yourself here. (Congratulations on a terrific magazine article. I loved the snake painting in particular!)
Best regards,
Linda
