A little child

Hello!

Here is a photo of a little girl. From the light source and others, it is OK (only 1.5" x 2"). My trouble is her hair in combo with this shirt. For me, the hair with this blue pattern makes an almost closed circle (or oval), that I find unfavorable. What can I do? May I do more hair between the ears and neck? She has much more hair, just not on this photo. :( Or am I supposed to let that so? I have the underpainting of the shirt finished. Any advice?

Leslie,

This is your painting and you can do anything you would like! In fact you need to change things that don't work.

So yes, of course, add more hair. You can change the dress to have a smaller or larger collar, or one with a different shape, or one without the blue plaid, or that is just the same color as the dress. Or have no collar at all. There's no reason to include the little design on the front of the dress unless you want to because you feel it contributes something to the design. And while you're at it, you might as well change the background to suit your likes, unless you like it as it is.

Good luck.

Hi Chris!

Thank you for your advice.

I decided to make a dark background and a little more highlights for the bottom parts of her hair. I hope to finish the face this weekend.

All best for you!
Leslie
