Godward The Siesta

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and have spent the last few nights reading posts and soaking in as much information as possible. After reading about the importance of copying the masters and how much it helps to develop your work I decided to attempt a copy. My medium is colored pencil so I wasn't sure how this would come out. I chose John Godwards The Siesta. I really enjoyed this drawing and will be doing many more. I was able to do much more with my colored pencils than I thought I could. Any suggestions or criticisms would be appreciated.

Wow, I love it! I have never worked in colored pencils and did not realize that you could get such a dark rich color with this medium.

What is the size of this piece? What material is your drawing on? Illustration board? Hot press watercolor paper?

Thanks! I work on Rising Stonehenge printmaking and drawing paper with prismacolor colored pencils. The size of the piece is small, 8x10, a size I could start and finish in a weekend! It was actually one of your posts that inspired me to try this. I plan on following your advice and spend some time learning from copying the masters and then working my way into full time portrait work. I especially like the challenge of getting a painting effect with colored pencils. I love detail but need to soften my work(edges) which is what I learned by copying this painting.
I have worked in colored pencils for many years and I feel as if I am painting when I use them.
