Hi Chris, I love your portrait!
I am in NC and went to college in Raleigh and Chapel Hill. Now I am in Shelby, just west of Charlotte. NC is a wonderful place. Asheville might also be a place to consider, it has a very strong art community.
Welcome.

Thanks Mary. Ashville is on the list. Next summer we will scope out several prospective places to live and work. I definitely want to visit Biltmore and see the Sargent.

Beautiful color Chris. I look forward to your future posts.
As much from life is the best way to go, if not the easiest.
I understand Shanks does most, if not all, of his portraits from life and you cannot sniff at his prices.

As a former illustrator who also survived the wars I welcome you aboard. Beautiful painting.

Thanks both Sharon and Marvin.
Yes, Shanks paints exclusively from life. His portrait of the Pope must be a rare exception, although he said he did get some actual time to sketch him from life.
