Keep Inventory- It Is A Must!

Hello all,

I write this email as a reminder to any artist working with galleries that you must keep inventory of your work. I have seen artists leave the consignment sheets around their studios as if the paper meant nothing to them. That paper is your contract and your means of proof that the painting was in the care of the gallery. It also tells you how much the gallery is supposed to pay you.

"Why are you writing this Anthony? It is all common sense."

"Of course it is common sense, but I see people make that mistake, and then have trouble proving that the gallery once had the painting. Also, if you travel with your art, and return a couple of times a year to your galleries, you may even forget that you did a painting until you see it again at the gallery."

"Oh Anthony, who could be stupid enough to forget a painting that they did a year ago?"

"Well, I've been that stupid, I forgotten some. However, I do keep meticulous records of my work in galleries, so it's all on paper and I haven't had the problem of proving that a gallery still needs to pay me for a painting."

"OK Anthony, I'll listen."

"And you won't regret it. Bye now."
