Hi Steven,
Thanks for your critique. I knew that inventing the light would be the toughest part of the painting, but the pose in the photo reminded me so much of Vermeer's painting that it inspired me to try it anyway. If I do more paintings of this type, I will be sure to get reference photos with correct lighting and better costuming, to make it easier for me.

I will be working on the painting some more this weekend, on things you pointed out and some other things I see. I'll see how convincing I can get it, and post the result.
