Alexander

Hello,

I wanted to share an image of a monochrome I recently did. It was intended to be a surprise for the mother, so I had to work from a photo instead of from life. I chose what I thought was the best photo of the ones I was given - one of Alexander playing on the beach. I thought the bright midday sun made some interesting designs with shadow and light. Since the image was smallish and poor quality (on my printer at least) AND I'm really just beginning to understand how to handle oil paint I went ahead and opted to do this portrait in monochrome. It was so much fun to do!

His mother absolutely loves the painting and was so moved she cried when she saw it! Pretty nice.

Anyway, here is the finished piece and the reference photo I had to work from. I am constantly trying to improve my ability to capture likeness but I am pleased with this one.

Thanks for looking!
