Josie Carlie and Eddy, dyptic
Josie and Charlie are twins, and Eddy is their older brother. In my opinion, when there are three people in the scene, one person can look like the "odd man out." So I composed the idea of this work to be a dyptic - they are together as a whole scene, but Josie gets to be the star of her own painting, and Charie and Eddy have a great older brother-younger brother dynamic.
You can't see it until you really look, but there is a Monarch butterfly at the far left of Josie's canvas.
These were framed together in a frame without a rabbet, so I gallery wrapped the canvas and painted the edges. They float in the frame and from each other about a 1/4 inch.
As with many of my paintings , I try composing paintings that are not only meaningful now, but will best stand the chance of being appreciated by the future spouses and children of these kids, so that the painting comtinues to live on, and not be stuck in some next generation's attic
