oyster gatherers of cancale

This is a detail from a copy I did of a sargent painting intitled the oyster gatherers of Cancale. There are two version of this painting one is an oil study he did the other is the finishd piece, I worked from the oil study which is some what darker than the finished oil, I used a grid to enlarge the painting, my copy being two feet by three feet. I'm not sure of the size of the original, Critiques are welcome.

Included is sargents finished oil this is not the copy I worked from but is similar.

Dan,

You have made quite a little nice study here. I think I have the same book of which Lisa speaks and I have also seen the studies for this painting by Sargent. You

Lisa Carlos

Heres the whole painting Lisa, did this for a painting class and due to time restraints had to exclude several figures but I agree with your thoughts about the figure work of Sargent.

Carlos and Lisa believe I was using the book you mentioned. I did this painting from about fifteen feet away and so had to plan each brush stoke very carefully, had a great time with this one!
