Hello from Katonah, NY
As another background lurker, I have to admit I'm a bit intimidated to post here. I have seen some work that could move me to tears it's so amazing. Then reading through some of the informative posts and viewing some truly beautiful pieces, I realize that I am light years away from where I want to be so I guess it's time to plunge in head first.
My original training was in oils but that was 20 or so years ago, needless to say it's not like riding a bike. I needed a creative outlet and by chance happened upon watercolors. I have since developed a real love for the medium and moved toward portraits after taking a refresher drawing class at a local art school. Although I would someday like to go back and try my hand at oils again, for now I'm more than happy to learn all there is to know about portraits and this certainly seems to be the place.

Welcome! Your work is delicate yet strong. You have a nice feel for informal children's portraits. I am also new around here. Incidentally, I started out as a watercolorist too -trouble with turp fumes.
I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Chris,
Thank you for your reply. I must admit, after years of smoking, I don't know if I can handle the fumes of the oil medium. However, I want very much to try again someday. I think watercolors have a voice also, I truly want to explore this medium more and see what I can make of it.
Thanks again

Hi Caroline, welcome!
Watercolor is one medium I have never tried, though I have always loved the look of them. I look forward to seeing more!

Resilience within gentility
Hi Caroline,
An apt piece of work which captures the gentility and character of the children. Watercolor is a wonderful medium that does that, and one of the ways which allowed Sargent to explore light and color, and thus became known to be "a master of light and color". With time and dedication i'm sure you'll be excellent like him!
