Mims Studios

Okay, I've done it, cracked open the piggy bank, brainwashed my husband, signed up for the two-month summer session at Mims Studio in NC.

I'll bring the digital camera and laptop so I can share some of the learning experiences...

I know it's not long enough, but at least it's a first step towards a classical foundation.

Mari, I look forward to seeing your work. We broke the piggy bank too, I'm signed up for two weeks in June at The Atelier in Minneapolis, and will be moving over there to start full time in the fall.

Hi Debra, it sounds like we're afloat on the same precarious raft. I'll take your email address with me if you'd like to compare notes. Good luck to you.

Good luck with your decision Mari and have a good time learning while you are there.

Your website looks wonderful and is very inspiring. I love the fact that you paint equally well with portraits, still-life and landscape (reminds me of Sargent). I love your 'copies of the Old Masters'. After seeing your website, I have decided that when I finish my two work-in-progress pieces, I will spend at least a whole year copying from Old Masters' works. I know it will be a good learning experience for me, as it really shows in your work!

Man

Are those two great painters or what. I think that you will remember those weeks fondly forever.

Thanks!

Mari,

Are you still at Mims? My family, parents and kids, live nearby and I've always wanted to come by for a visit.

Yes. I extended the two-month summer session an additional two months. I return to Florida this Sunday to sell my house, then will be back to study at Mims in January. I expect to spend several years here.

Tours of the school can be arranged through Abigail (email is on the school's website) by appointment during specific hours on Mondays. I obviously highly recommend the program....

Euripedes cast study

This is my first cast drawing, done with much guidance at Mims Studios.

Size: 29" x 21"
Charcoal on white paper.

It was a fantastic process that completely changed my perceptions. We'll be moving up there as soon as the house sells.

The next cast study in the progression will be charcoal and chalk on toned paper.

Also part of the studies: anatomy, life drawing, ornament, nature studies, landscape....
