Callie

Hi everyone,

This was something different and fun. I worked from a photo but tried to replicate the feel of a plein air sketch. It was nice to work loose and fast. I tend to get into trouble when I worry too much about unimportant details.

11x14 Pastel on U-art paper

Thank you for looking

Vianna,

You worked loose and fast and also VERY GOOD! I looked at your work through a mirror and there was a good feeling of depth (face-background) so I think you have been very successful with that "plein air" look. Love your colours!

Thank you Carlos,
I never thought of viewing work on my monitor through a mirror, very cool. I was hesitant to use this painting for a brochure but was surprised to find it worked well in grayscale.
As grueling as the plein air painting is I think it is a great way to sharpen the eye for value and edges.

Vianna,

Monet (or Renoir) couldn't have done it better! I love the way you have kept the colors light and, without much value range, describe the roundness of her head and the space behind her. It is accurate in every respect, even though it is spontaneous. You knew how to handle this and it shows.

Vianna,
I like the cool outdoor colors and the girl is drawn very well too.
