Bouguereau-Cheribum

Hello,
This is my second post to the art forum. I am continually impressed and inspired by the talent portayed by all of you. For those of you who, like myself, are just scratching the surface of portraiture, it takes great courage to show your work amoungst the many talented professionals in this field. To you...I applaud.

I am in the process of doing a series of 15-20 cherubs...mainly from children I know, with the permission from their parents. I also wanted to add a few of the Old Masters works, for study and to give my series a classical feeling and look. The contrast of contemporary (now days) cherubs amidst the "works of old," was very intreging for an upcoming show.

In this painting, I wanted to capture the intense contrast, softness and harmony that Bouguereau and great Masters like Rembraundt have so exquisitly mastered and passed on to us. I also admire the way Jeffery Mims (A Master artist of these days) uses color to give life and movement to a painting. So, this was another lesson for me in using color for lights and shadows. Notice the arms and abdomen.

Patrick,
This is lovely. I like the color you added in the areas described very much.
You said something about an upcoming show? I live in the area and would love to come and see more of your work.

Marta,
Thank you for your comment. Are you here in Las Vegas? My show will be in August at the Digital Galleries on Lake Mead and Buffallo. I also have 10 paintings at Art Encounter on Spring Mnt./Valley View. I have several Ballet and still life paintings along with my painting of Princess Diana that I just recently received permission from her family in Althorp to get her into print.

Thanks again!!

Patrick,
Truth be known, I actually live in Henderson, but I usually say Las Vegas because we are so close and no one ever heard of Henderson.
I am familiar with Art Encounter. The are one of the best Gallery's in the area. I have never approached an Art Gallery before because most of my work is Portraits for specific individials.
Thanks for the infomation on your upcoming show.
Good luck to you!

Marta

Patrick:

A nice work! I have also done a vinginette of this painting - you can see mine on my site (below). It is a wonderful work by M. Buoguereau. I think he did his in the late 1890s and the original is in the hands of a collector. I could not find it in any museums. His painting is a full-figure cupidon and exhibits wonderful use of lighting the human form - as do most of his works.

I do remember seeing your version of this cupidon when I first signed on to the forum. Very well done. The Masters have truly figured this craft out for us. We just need to learn the techniques and put our own heart into the work to make it uniquely ours.

Thanks for the post.
