To make art YOUR business.

I find it curious, after reading such a difference in people's situations regarding income and responsibility. I know some of us are blessed not to be the primary earners and the answers to my question can have so many variables, but in its simplest form...

How many commissions either monthly or annually do you believe are needed to be a viable commissioned portrait artist? (granted the prices you charge and the figurative work you sell etc. all will play into this).

I have read about some who have a huge amount and yet I have read about others who are working to get totally away from commissions and into just figurative the work.

Any thoughts, much appreciated.

I have heard that many of the well known pros do about a dozen commissions a year.

Michele are they usually considered more "figurative" painters?

For the life of me I can't remember where I just read someones bio, maybe it was the PSOA newsletter for my state, where they said this fella does 120, I thought that was a lot!
