An Introspection - a self portrait

Hello everyone,

Haven't been here for a while , here's my latest portrait.

This is a Self Portrait of a 21 year-old Chinese (Hong Kong) woman, who was bought up in a broken family and started her adulthood alone in a foreign country.

2B and 3B mechanical pencils on Arches hotpress watercolor paper.
Dimension: 14" X 19"

Sorry about the bad photo

Joyful

Isabel,

A very moving portrait. Let me add that if I was able to do a such an accomplished self-portrait at such a young age and under such circumstances, my expression would have been one of unbounded joy.

Awesome!

Great technique, great drawing and somebody took a great photo to work from. Lot of attitude comes through.

Sharon and Bob, thank you for the kind comments.

I took the photos myself. Used 4 ref photos for the pose, then used a small mirror for the facial expression and other details.

Great amount of talent and patience, hope you can keep them both in unity for a long, long time.

Wow, that's an uncompromising piece. Subject, technique(!) approach and everything about it. A tour de force with loads of impact. Really in your face, just about literally.

I could study this for hours; I'm glad there are a number of close-ups on the details.
