question Old easels?

I once visited an old, famous artist who was a really neat man. He has known Rockwell and Parrish very personally and he had about the greatest easel I had ever seen. It had a huge worn gear crank along the back and was very old and heavy. It has soul. I have always wanted such an easel ever since. Any advice along these lines is sought. Thanks, Tim

Someone who I believe collects old easels is Michael Del Priore. I think some are even from Europe. If you go to his website and click on "take the tour", you can see his studio at a distance, but in terms of viewing the easels, it doesn't do much.

Antiques for artists?

Does anyone know of a place to find great antique stuff from artists' studios? The antique easel is but one thing on my wish list.

E-bay has been disappointing (for many things)...
I know I can buy new nice easels. I really think the old heavy used ones are great.

Although I can't help you in your search, I have been seeking the same article. It seems that for one to become available, one of our bretheren will have to pass on or become unable to carry on. However, I believe that the new caretakers see the article as a paint covered ruined item and has it destroyed. Such a pity in my thoughts.

I would be happy at this moment to be able to purchase the hardware and get a picture of the older easels so that I could replicate it... Good luck. If you find a cache of these old relics, keep me in mind if you care to share.

Tim,

If you go to Michael's site at http://delprioreportraits.com, click on Products, then click on Easels (the word, not the photo), and he has some antique easels for sale. I don't know if they were there when you looked before.
