"The artist, John Smith"

It's been a while since I have posted anything. I have been so busy with life events and changes that I haven't had time for anything.

I am just now catching up on my postings...

Here is a 19x12 "The artist, John Smith"

John is an artist from up in Putney, Vermont that paints with Richard Schmid. He sat for us when I was up there in October 05.

Enjoy...

Tony

Tony, this one is wonderful, too! I wish you would post more often! I find myself especially drawn to the interesting colors you've chosen around his cheek, nose, and eyes. The other thing I notice is how you've riveted the viewer's attention on this focal point by putting in all the crisp edges and value changes, while the hair, beard, and sweater are less sharp. I also like the way you did the hairline. Great portrait!

Wow, Tony! I love your transitions of color and variations of edges.

Hi Tony,
This is yet an exceptional piece of work since you last unveiled your Japanese figurative piece quite a while ago. Did it take you long to paint this?
And would you care to share your thoughts on developing this piece on the WIP thread or something of the sort?

Last but not least, i congratulate you on being selected for entry into GreenHouse Salon International 2006, together with Linda Brandon!

Great Tony,
Love the looseness. How long did the session last? Are you studying with Richard Schmid? If so, I'm really jealous. That man is great!

Well done Tony! How about a close up of that eye? Did you use Zorn's palette for this?
Cheers,
Bryan

Thanks everyone for the comments...

Here is a closeup of the face.

I used the Sargent palette on this painting. Muted, but is a little more expanded than Zorn.

I started this in Vermont and finished it at home.

I paint with Richard's painting group once a year but I can't claim to be one of his REAL students like Gerhartz or Burdick but I am a student of his based on reading his books, cover to cover... MULTIPLE times.

Tony
