Dear Jane,
This painting is so clean and so well crafted, it is a joy for me to look at and study; one of those portrait posts I have to come back to again and again. My initial impression is Wow, and so is my second.
Please take this as a compliment; it recalls for me an obscure memory of a 1965 TV commercial advocating gas heat! In the commercial the house interior was furnished with everything in white, including the carpeting. A three-year-old girl ("Suzy") with a white satin dress, was running barefoot through the house with a white dog, rolling on the carpets and climbing the Swedish modern chairs. The dialogue ran something like: "See how white Suzy's dress is .... See how white the carpet is under Suzy's dress... See how white the chair is Suzy is sitting in .... See how white the laundry for Suzy is .... See how white......". - Well, you get the idea!
You have handled the subtleties of color reflections and transitions in the whites and everything else so masterfully. Kudos!
