'Ocean melody'

Just recently completed this portrait of an 18yr old Cellist who plays for a local symphony. I wanted to capture her youth, and playfulness with her bare feet and rolled up jeans, playing a sophisticated instrument. It's 24"x48" and painted in oils. I'm still a student of oil painting and hope to one day paint as beautifully as those on this site :)

Lovely!!! It's so original, great composition - it is so difficult to manage large instruments - you've done a great job.

Thank you so much Chris, that means so much to me coming from such an inspiring Painter such as yourself.

Lesley,
It shows that you really thought about this painting--not just how you were going to compose it, but the idea behind it. The whole thing is beautifully handled. |
Thank you Alexandra, I really appreciate that :) I learned a great deal painting this and it challenged me in every way. That excites me and gives me hope knowing the next painting I paint will be an improvement on the last.

Like the composition...particularly the angle of the instrument moving the eye from the lower left to the upper right. Nice drawing also..not an easy one to pull off. Congragulations!

Thank you Mike, the painting's a wedding anniversary from the Cellist to her very eccentric parents. You're right, it wasn't easy at all pulling this off and if I had to do it again... I wouldn't place her on the rocks, I would have her sit on a chair where the water laps the shore.
