Laguna College of Art and Design

Good morning all,

I am considering attending Laguna College of Art and Design for my MFA. I was very excited to learn that it is one of only a few schools that offer an MFA in a traditional setting, and that it is only an hour away. The actually offer an MFA in drawing or painting. What a concept! :) Here is the school's page at ARC:

I was curious if anybody here has had any experience with this school. Due to the small size (400 students) there are not a great deal of reviews and such on line.

In terms of getting an MFA within a traditional Atelier setting (ARC approved), this seems to be my only option. I am unable to relocate (wife and kids).

I have looked at LAAFA as well, but it is a bit too far and does not have an MFA program. I would like to have the option to teach at the university level to help support my family and my art, so the MFA is necessary. The school is a bit pricey $20,000 a year (X 2 years for MFA), but the curriculum is such that it would seem worth it (as compared to non ARC approved schools).

Any thoughts or experiences with this school would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin

Sorry, no knowledge of the school. Good luck in your search. I hope that there are enough openings available for university teachers in your area to justify the expense.

Thank you Julie.

I went to visit the school today and was pretty impressed. Some really great work going on there and some nice folks. Seems like a very productive program. I found out today that their MFA program received accreditation in 2006, so that might explain why not too many have heard of it. I'm hoping that at least one of the good folks here has had some form of experience with the school or have heard something about it though.

Thanks again.
