Mike the heads are also available at Scottsdale Artists' School, Scottsdale AZ. If Debra's site doesn't pan out, call them and I'm sure they will advise you. The head is a fantastic purchase and it comes with a very wonderful booklet containing drawings of each feature shown at different angles.

I will do that to compare prices. The other one is $98.

I have been teaching some bargain portrait workshops with no models so I was anxious to explain lighting to novices. I had access to the planes head, but after a long quest, I actually found a male wig head, that had more natural planes for instruction and planning shadow shapes, WITH EARS, at a fixtures store.

I set up a little web album that showed how I used it.
(I used a tiny url... not sure it will work)

They are inexpensive styrofoam, but I used acrylic gesso and with a few coats and some neutral gray they worked excellently for me. They cost me under $10 and I made each student one. Durability-wise, they are a bit delicate, but I liked the more realistic lighting effects.

That is a great idea. I think I will purchase some for my class.

I went ahead and bought one off e-bay. Wanted one for myself to be more "permanent". They have a few more under $60 including shipping.

I was going to say the shipping from SAS was not going to be the least expensive option!

I must say, neutral gray is fine, but your photo looks much lighter and easier to understand than the real ones I have had my hand on! The again, the best source is a REAL person.
