Glenn Vilppu

I just wanted to make the members of the forum aware of an amazing draftsman and teacher. His name is Glenn Vilppu and he is an instructor of animation. I was looking on Smartflix to rent DVDs on anatomy and his were the highest rated. After watching a couple of them I am completely hooked. Much of the figure drawing that he does is from his knowledge of anatomy and memory of figures he has drawn in the past. His experience in animation gives the figures movement and strength that is often lacking in figure studies. What I really like is his teaching style. He explains drawing as a simple process of geometric forms building on gesture. The only draw back is the quality of the DVDs. The camera work is amaturish and there is a lot of background noise that can be distracting. Still, he can put more life in a figure in 5 lines than I have seen in many fully constructed drawings.
No, I'm not related to him nor do I work for him. I just think what he has to teach is invaluble for the artist studying figure and portrait.

You can check out his website at www.vilppustudio.com
Take the time to look at his drawings they are beautiful.
