An older drawing

This is portrait of a friend I did some years ago. I was looking at it again because I am newly-interested in charcoal, and though I would post it.
It is about 14" x 12", charcoal on paper. |
Hi Thomasin, really wish you wouldn't post this in the critique section, since I can't offer anything of value--- (that's my only criticism :-)
From my perspective, this is a super cool portrait!! congrats! love the wild energy about it. |
Thank-you so much, Christie (I wish I could remember how I did it - it was done quite some time ago!).

Very powerful head study, Thomasin. The model

Thank-you Carlos. I am very pleased you like it.

Thomasin,
Thank you for posting this. To me it is so interesting--this glimpse into your artistic past, to see how you've developed. I can see you were feeling "around the form" even then, though there was a heavy emphasis on lines, perhaps too much in the neck which appears almost flat (parallel to the picture plane). I wonder if you even think in terms of lines any more? |
Alex, thank-you very much for your comments. Yes, I don't think about line in the same way at all any more. I still like the idea of using line, but actually using it doesn't come as easily to me as it did then.
