This is a painting I'm working on. The photo is a little warmer than the painting. This is a young gal that posed for me at a Civil War re-enactment.

Dianne, I think you have something here. I think You have separated the big shapes quite nicely but I do have some things that bother me personally. First thing that I would check is the length of the philtrum or is it that the top lip is placed to low? The tip of the nose and the separation of values, in the tip area, makes the nose seem out of balance, like it is being puled up to one side.
Also, I think you could open her left eye a touch more and the light by the brow of the same eye is a bit to strong. all the best to you |
Thanks Misha, I'll work on it.

Dianne, this is off the topic just a little, but have you ever thought about creating larger paintings of historic scenes with many figures? I think you would be terrific at it.
I love the painting, by the way. Her expression makes me wonder. Is she thinking? squinting? winking? When a head is tilted to that degree it is hard to line up the features, and I see a discrepancy in her eyes--one is lower than the other. I think the one on our left (her right) might be too high at the inner corner, in other words, at the wrong angle. If you tilt it a little more it should fall into place. |

Hi Tyna,
I've thought about maybe doing historic scenes in the past. Now I have a lot of photos of reenactments so I could bring it to realization. I'm waiting for my daughter to move out of my studio so I can work larger. Things are a little tight right now as I'm working in a little bedroom. It would certainly be fun to do a historic scene. Maybe someone will commission one! I've made some repairs, how does this look? Dianne |
Much better don't you think? There is one more thing that troubles me and that is the dirty looking hand under the elbow. I am sure its not but it dose come across as it mite be.
Also I believe you could expand the existing light, on her forehead, and limit the shadow on her left our right. Don't forget to sign it! Grate job! |

Thanks Misha. I'm waiting on that hand until the paint dries a little more. I found some thiings off on her nose...she has this really cool nose that I hadn't captured but I think I did now. Thanks for the help!!
