Thomasin,

I like the way the figure inhabits practically the whole space and imposes its presence on the viewer. Again, I commend the way you have modelled the torso, and the feel and texture of the whole.
Your work is very engaging. One cannot be indifferent to it.
Very nice work.

Thomasin,

Watching this progress into its finished state was a privilege--thank you for taking the time to share it. Now, looking at it, I'm remembering all the layers, and scraping off, and trying different things, and these stages seem almost visible in the richness of the surface and in the present form of Puck. I always wonder why artists are afraid to let others see their process. Of course, your process is definitely more interesting than mine!

As always, I love the way you imply movement in the facial expression. I think there is a little bit of magic in your brush! Could you please post a closeup of the face? I want to see the nose especially, but all the features. And another detail of the background brushstrokes?

I agree that your paintings are remarkable, masterful and unique!

Thank-you very much for all your very encouraging comments. I have been away for a few days (not ignoring you!) and it was very nice to read this when I came back. I will post a lengthier reply when I have a bit more time and also post a close-up for you, Alex.

Here are some close-ups.

Just a quick comment on how I am leaving this painting in a somewhat unfinished state because I needed to keep the feeling of possibility and potential apparent. I like it this way because it is more in tune with the feeling I had when painting the piece. To finish it as I was doing seemed to be to simply round it off to the nearest conventional full stop. I am leaving it aside for a while until my ideas have changed with new work and the influence of other artists, and perhaps I will rework some of it (although I think we are entitled to one or two unfinished pieces in our oeuvre, aren't we?)
