Well, here is my most recent portrait commission. It's 40" x 30", oil on linen. This was painted using many photographs since the clients wanted a portrait of themselves around the time they got married.

The clients were very happy with the results. (sometimes that's a worry) And I learned alot while painting this piece, do's and don't, that I'll carry onto future commissions.

Looks like you did a fine job with this commission. It must have been almost as difficult as painting a posthumous portrait from many reference photos--although fortunately you were able to meet the clients in this case. The drawing is excellent, and I'll bet the likenesses are excellent, too. I especially like the way you've painted the hands.

This is wonderful, Casey, as indeed is the other work you've posted. I have a question that pertains to a commission I'm working on now, and for which I'm insurmountably stuck with a single flash photo the client provided. Since you were working from several photos, I assume you had to make a decision about your light source. Was your light source (which BTW works extremely well) an arbitrary choice, and were there certain challenges you faced in remaining faithful to this source. Thanks. -- John C.

You've nicely captured a moment, Casey, and I find the moment telling. The body language of the man virtually shouts detachment and indifference. This unfortunately does not look like a loving couple, however they may be in real life.
