Chicago Exhibition

I wanted to share -

'Looking To Be Looked At'

at the Zolla/Lieberman Gallery, Chicago
July 14 - August 25, 2006

featuring 3 women figurative artists - Heather Becker, Kimberly Dow & Susan Block.

Sponsored by Bentley Motors.

This show is for the most part nudes, so I won't post examples here. I will have 6 or 7 pieces in the show. It should be interesting since out of the 3 artists, my work is the only realism.

Miss Dow,
Dang, I should so have liked to see an abstract nude :)
Good luck with the show,
Allan

Hey Kim,

If you get an opportunity to get a good deal on one of those Bentley cars keep me in mind. My old Jeep is beginning to feel it's age. Something around $8-9,000 might fit.

Sounds like a nice opportunity for you. How'd you get so far as the windy city?

Kimberly Dow 05-28-2006 05:49 PM

Thanks Allen. You know, 'abstract' wouldnt be the right description for their work, Im not exactly sure what would be. They are recognizable as nudes though...so I dont want Cynthia to ground me by posting any. ;)

Mike, I will keep you in mind for one of those. Just not sure what you'd want with such a cheap machine. ;)

I ended up there totally by chance. I sent slides out to a few galleries in different areas of the US. This was the only one in Chicago. They called me the day they received my slides, thinking my work would fit this show they had planned. They told me in 30 years they have never called an artist who sent slides cold. :sunnysmil

#1 pick!

Kim,
After seeing your beautiful work on this Forum as well as at my art school hangout...Scottsdale Art School...YOU WIN!!!

I do not believe that people come into galleries to look at art and think that they LOVE abstract anything............ (How naive am I?) I think they need some kind of mind control.......Your paintings are beautiful. If they are bypassed, viewers are brain dead.

Go, Girl!
PS

Kim! Oh I am so proud of you. I hope every single one sells.

Big congratulations (and I hope somebody takes lots of photos of the show)!

Kim, this is SO exciting! I wish I could just hop on a plane and go! Yes, please give us a full report of the opening, and take pictures or have someone take them for you if you are anything like me (forgetful). Congratulations!!!!!

Kimberly Dow 05-29-2006 01:47 AM

Thank you Carol, Linda & Alex!

Ive never been to Chicago and will be attending the opening - should be fun. Im hearing that there will be dinners (I think I heard the word 'art critic' but I dont want to say for sure, this gallery owner talks SO fast and flips from subject to subject quickly) and Bently executives there and other promotional things. I will try and get photos - but Im not bringing anyone (kids are home for the summer, so all available adults will be babysitting) and so far I havent figured out anyone I know in that area.

I suppose it would be tacky if someone is talking to me about a painting and I whip out my camera? ;)

I don't think so much. I think everyone understands these days that you want some record of the event. I'd do a bunch of picture taking before I introduced myself to anyone.

Or, you could seduce some twelve year old in the crowd to take about 50 shots of you mingling near your paintings. Just make sure they don't go running off down Lake Dr. with your camera.

Hi Kim,

This is great news and I wish you wonderful success with the show.
If I lived any where close to Chicago I would come and be the photographer for the evening. Mike's idea is a good one and I am sure people won't mind having their photo taken, especially if you offer to send them a copy via Email.
