Godward's Betrothed: student version

Here's this year's student collabvorative piece. We do this every year now: 169 of my (high school) Art 1 students each get a piece of the "puzzle" - this time it's John Godward's The Betrothed, 1890. I take the poster, cut it up into 169 equal sized pieces, shuffle them, and hand them out to all 5 of my Art 1 classes. The students don't know what the final image will be until all the pieces are completed and assembled. Their task is to reproduce as accurately as possible their particular image on a paper nine times as large. The final piece is then quite large...

I think they did a pretty good job of it....

To give you some sense of scale:

Yes David, it was a very good job.

David,
I was amazed at the first posting of this art teaching process and my amazement has not changed with this one. it is fascinating to me that so many of the students were so accurate in their perception of the color to be used.

What a great teaching tool.
