Kinstler's Palette
 

I recently bought E. R. Kinstler's new instructional CD.

I feel I got my money's worth, and more.

First, his palette, which I like very much, is quite simple -- two reds, two yellows, two blues, two browns, sap green and white: cad red light and alizarin; raw sienna and cad yellow light; cerulean and ultramarine; burnt sienna and burnt umber, and white and sap green.

But just as important, for me at least, is how far back Mr. K goes. He as worked with, or known people who knew and studied with the likes of Sargent, Henri, and others, and he peppers his dialogue with quotes from these guys, so I got to learn from them, too.

Personally, I felt I learned a lot. On top of that, he's personable and quite humorous.
